As the season changes

Last Saturday - October 15th We took the  AP3 Press On Wheels vehicle out for it's last event. It seemed fitting that we worked on site at MIAD with the Veteran Print Project lead by the amazing Yvette Pino & Rina Yoon.

There comes a time when changes must be made, and ours was to choose between a portable shop (our Press On Wheels ) or our new location @ 900 E. Keefe in the House of RAD complex.  The new space fits us. While it's a bit cold in there, we will just bundle up and adjust.

The End of POW

The 2000 Ford van/bus was donated to us in 2018 - We travelled over 10,000 miles sharing our love for Print and Papermaking.  A bitter sweet goodbye.

The day the brakes failed

Friday August 19, 2022  The AP3 POW vehicle was making it's way to The Museum of Wisconsin Arts Art and Chalk festival.

The signal light turned yellow - and rather than run the Yellow i decided  to stop.  If you have ever experienced a firm resistance when the brake pedal is pushed and then to suddenly have the compression in the brake lines fade and the brake pedal press es to the floor board and the vehicle continues on. a feeling of helplessness and  dread. We entered the intersection with apprehension and no control. We coasted to a stop on the other side of the intersection.  We got out of the Van/bus and breathed a sigh, exhaled after the moments in suspended time, waiting for the unknown to manifest itself in the approaching moments. The sun was bright, a slight rustling of leaves could be detected in the shadows of engine sounds.

The truck was towed to a garage and repairs were made, 3 hours later we were on the road.

From Move In to Build Out.

For the last 3 or so years Anchor's presses have been in storage. For the last several weeks we have taped, mudded, painted and finally have started to move stuff around to find the perfect flow of the shop.
What's it called, Feng Shui! The flow will will be everything.

We are placing our presses, tables and related equipment in a way that will benefit the makers who will come to inhabit Anchor Press, Paper & Print.

Perhaps what is even more wonderful is that we find ourselves in a community of makers, builders, creative individuals who are carving out places where they can create in a supportive and helpful community of like minded souls.

This is Anchor's 4th home and perhaps the best, as we are giving what we love to the Milwaukee community.

Move in and Build out.

On April 16th, 2022, we rented a 26' foot truck so we could move presses and equipment which had been in storage for over 2 years to our new home.

We will be located at 900 E. Keefe Ave. Milwaukee, WI 53212

Recent pictures of the move:

Moving the mighty French Tool etching press into the truck.

The French Tool Press came to us by way of Eureka Springs Arkansas. Its previous and original owner Susan Morrison gave us a really good deal on the press in 1990-91. When we move the press the first time we rented a crane and pulled it out of Susan's second story studio window. This time it was a pallet jack and a fork lift. Thanks Brandon, Richard and Matthew for making the move possible.

Jessica pulling a pallet of litho stones out of storage.

Lithography Stones are millions of years old, they are quarried from very few places on the planet. If you have never drawn on a properly prepared litho stone, you are in for a treat, there really is nothing like it. Anchor Press, Paper & Print will be offering lithography classes for beginners through advanced practitioners.

The Charles Brand Litho Press waits for placement in its new home.

The Charles Brand Litho Press comes to us by way of UIC Chicago. They gave us the press in 2006 when they shut down the printmaking area at the University. The press "Alois" is named after Alois Senefelder - the inventor of lithography. It spent many years at Landfall Press Chicago, and was recently featured at Landfall's 50th Anniversary exhibit at the Milwaukee Art Museum.
